Rwanda FDA Strengthens Pharmaceutical and Regulatory Partnerships at Africa Health ExCon 2026

The Director General of Rwanda FDA, Prof. Emile Bienvenu, has attended Africa Health ExCon 2026 in Cairo, Egypt, where he participated in a series of high-level engagements aimed at strengthening regulatory cooperation, advancing pharmaceutical manufacturing, and promoting strategic partnerships to enhance healthcare systems across Africa.
Held from 15 to 18 June 2026 under the theme “Health Sovereignty in Africa: Leadership, Resilience, and Self-Reliance,” Africa Health ExCon is the continent’s largest healthcare exhibition and conference, bringing together policymakers, regulators, manufacturers, investors, and healthcare leaders to discuss innovative solutions for strengthening health systems, promoting local manufacturing, and improving access to quality medical products.

As part of the event, Prof. Bienvenu attended the official opening ceremony and held bilateral discussions with Dr. Ali El Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), focusing on strengthening collaboration between Rwanda FDA and EDA through the exchange of technical expertise, regulatory best practices, and capacity-building initiatives.

The Director General also engaged with leading pharmaceutical manufacturers, including Pharco Pharmaceuticals and EVA Pharma, Minapharm Pharmaceuticals, Utopia Pharmaceuticals, and Gypto Pharma to explore opportunities for collaboration in pharmaceutical production, technology transfer, and access to quality-assured medicines.
To gain further insight into Egypt’s pharmaceutical ecosystem, the delegation visited the Egyptian Drug Authority Laboratories, where they learned about laboratory operations, quality control systems, and regulatory oversight mechanisms that support the safety, quality, and efficacy of medical products.

The Director General also participated in a high-level engagement organized by the Chamber of Pharmaceutical Industries of Egypt, which brought together senior government officials, regulators, development partners, and pharmaceutical industry leaders. Among the participants were Dr. Ali El Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority; Dr. Hisham Stait, Chairman of the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement, Medical Supply and Technology Management; and Ambassador Nermeen El-Zawahry, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Head of the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development.
The visit reaffirmed Rwanda FDA’s commitment to fostering regional and international cooperation that supports regulatory excellence, pharmaceutical innovation, local manufacturing, and improved access to quality-assured medical products. It also aligns with Rwanda’s broader vision of positioning itself as a regional hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing and medical product exports, contributing to stronger and more resilient healthcare systems across Africa.
